When you open the Decathlon Coach app, a pop-up window appears asking if you allow us (or not) to track your data. Rest assured, we are very familiar with these services, which is why we want to discuss this topic with you transparently.
“TRACKING”… WHAT DOES IT MEAN? 😨
A completely valid question! The truth is, we don’t share data just for the sake of it... Quite the opposite!
At Decathlon Coach, we limit the use of tracking technologies and data collection/sharing to the maximum, with a simple principle: these actions must be useful to our user community, as they help us constantly improve the app and its features.
In concrete terms, by allowing this “tracking,” you contribute to enhancing the app experience in several ways. Simply put, you help us:
- Understand how you discovered the app and what prompted you to start using Decathlon Coach. This helps us optimize our content and visibility. The goal is to be in the right place, at the right time, for the right people.
- Detect and resolve errors/bugs in the app: When you encounter an issue, like the app freezing or crashing (closing by itself), our developers can be notified instantly and fix it as quickly as possible. A bug-free app is better, right? ;)
- Test and analyze Decathlon Coach content performance: We use tools that help us understand what appeals to our community within the app. This allows us, for example, to meet your training needs (e.g., creating more Pilates or running programs if there’s high demand in those areas).
- Test and analyze new features: We can use tools that allow us to test two versions of the same feature with different users, in order to determine the best approach. This also helps us analyze general app usage to identify areas for improvement (e.g., analyzing the number of times users return to the program catalog to detect the need for a "favorites" feature).
- Personalize your experience: The data collected helps us offer content that matches your preferences or practice habits. For instance, if you hate running but prefer yoga, we’ll offer you new yoga content through targeted messages like push notifications (and vice versa!).
As you can see, data sharing is not an end in itself, but a necessary element that helps us offer you an increasingly relevant and high-quality experience within the app. As a Decathlon Coach user, you place a lot of trust in us by sharing your sports data, and we do our best to live up to that trust.
I UNDERSTAND! HOW CAN I SET MY PREFERENCES?
In summary, this data sharing plays an important role in the continuous improvement of Decathlon Coach. For us, the developers of the app, your consent to share data is crucial because it benefits YOU just as much as it benefits us :) Nevertheless, there are two ways to manage your consent.
- If we haven’t collected your choice yet:
Two successive screens will appear when launching the app:
- On the first one, click on “Choose my preferences.”
- On the second one, you can choose to either “Allow” or “Deny tracking.”
- If you have already accepted or refused tracking:
You can modify your choice as follows:
- Go to your smartphone’s settings, then Privacy > Tracking.
- Enable tracking permission for the Decathlon Coach app.
And that’s it, you're done!
IMPORTANT NOTE:
For your choices to take effect, you must also allow the use of cookies. If you refuse tracking in either case, the main choice will be the refusal! To learn more about cookies and how to manage your preferences, refer to the related guide below.
